Hearts on Fire + Bokeh Filter DIY

Happy 4th of July!

__________________________________________________________________

Create your own Hearts on Fire fireworks with this easy Bokeh Filter.

Materials:
Black stock paper - we used a black postcard
Exacto Knife
Best with 55mm or 50mm lens

Directions:
1. Cut the stock into a circle the exact size of your lens.
The circle should fit right inside the lens.
2. Use an exacto knife to cut out a small shape in the middle. We've done hearts, stars, lighting blots, bowler hats, snowflakes etc. Simpler designs work best.
3. Fit the filter inside your lens. Set your your focus to manual and adjust the focus until the lights turn into your filter shape. Works best at night.

Guess who's in my bag!

 (draped shorts-BB Dakota, lace bike shorts-American Apparel, blouse-Theory, jacket-Forever 21, shoes-Loeffler Randall, bag-H&M, sunglasses-Chanel, bracelet-All Saints)
It's Boogie! Don't worry. I don't actually carry him around in my bag, although judging by how quickly he fell asleep during the shoot, I think he likes it.
I can't even begin to tell you how much joy Boogie has brought into my life. Most people are always bewildered when they find out I have 2, now 3, pets. But it's just more furballs to love.
I've never raised a puppy. Linguine was already over a year old when we rescued him. Having Boogie has been a sincerely charming experience.

Meet Boogie!

(dress-vintage, hair piece-vintage)
Meet Boogie! The newest addition to our family.
Boogie (short for Booger) is a 3 month old Pekingese who stole my heart with his smushed little face and a tongue that's way too long for his mouth. I'm currently for too preoccupied watching him wage a war against his older brother, Linguine (my other dog), to write this post.
Happy Monday!

kids again

(silk pants-Proenza Schouler, top-Ruche, shoes-Rachel Comey, scarf-c/o American Apparel, turban-vintage)
This weekend we hosted my 8 year old sister for a sleepover. We watched the Labyrinth. And probably made my mom's life difficult by introducing her to Nutella and Whip Cream. The little one thinks Sam and I are just the bees the knees.
The rest of the weekend was spent getting lost in Home Depot, painting furniture, and potting plants. Exciting, I know.

getting to know you

(pants-Surface to Air, top-Zara, trench-Urban Outfitters, shoes- Pour La Victoire, necklace-Forever 21, bag-H&M, sunglasses- Nastygal)
Even though I grew up in the greater LA area, living here as an adult is nothing like I imagined. Not better or worse. Just different.
I'm getting used to it, but I miss San Francisco and my dears (you know who you are).
It is a blessing to have my longtime best friend living only a few freeway exits away.

One thing I really love about LA is that with the urban sprawl comes an overwhelming number of entertaining things to do.

We all end up in Hollywood

(cape-Alexander Wang, dress-Shape Shifter c/o NeedSupply)
Reunited with the love of my life, Nick!
Nick and I have been friends since my modeling stint at Nastygal a few years back. It's pretty brilliant that we both ended up in LA. Last night we celebrated how far we've come since then.
In other news, my 1st week on the job went great. I'm super excited for the launch of our summer lookbook this Monday.

bloggers who brunch

Had a fantastic time in Venice with Dylana, Rachel, Natalie, and the ThreadSence gang.
The star of the day was of course the one and only Pebbles, the ThreadSence mascot and my one true love.

Tall Grass and Drive Ins

(dress-Vena Cava, hat-H&M)
Stopped at an old school Drive In on our way back down to LA.
Our best detour to date.
