Dollhouse Bettie

So, I found this FANTASTIC shop on upper Haight that specializes in vintage lingerie and retro inspired lingerie, and finally had the funds to stock up on some proper undergarments for all my vintage dresses!

I got an amazing girdle, bustier, vintage crinoline, and a vintage Merry Widow; all of which look beautiful! What a difference having the proper undergarments on underneath older dresses; it totally holds your posture differently and makes you curvy in all the right places. If you have any vintage dresses, I cannot stress how much of an improvement it makes! : D

Check out the rest of their beautiful wares here!:

Guy Bourdin's experimental films

quote [Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) was a French avant-garde fashion photographer. Mentored by surrealist Man Ray and inspired by filmmaker Luis Buñuel, Bourdin's fashion shoots were often very strange, sexual, phantasmagoric and occasionally quite creepy. His photography frequently appeared in Vogue and Harper's Bazaar and he shot ad campaigns for Charles Jourdan, Issey Miyake, Chanel, and others. Bourdin was also quietly a filmmaker, working with 8mm, super 8, and 16mm. Above is footage of Dayle Haydon and Sayuko during a 1974 Vogue shoot in Normandy, France. More footage here on YouTube and here on UBUWEB Film. There's also a recent documentary, titled When the Sky Fell Down: The Myth of Guy Bourdin. And in July, Phaidon will publish a small inexpensive hardcover book of his work].

Spectrum-style retrogames

quote [A popular fashion in indie gaming is the graphical style of the Sinclair Spectrum computer (enormously popular in the UK in the early 1980s and sold in the US as the Timex Sinclair), whose peculiar limitations forced a certain discipline on programmers and artists. Jonathan Whiting's Stalwart, out this week, has all the qualities of a Spectrum classic: twitchy, near-impossible gameplay, clashing bright-on-black colors, and a pounding chippy soundtrack. For a less frenetic (and less frustrating) experience with the same aesthetic, try Locomalito's L'Abbaye des Morts, a platformer with a delicious historical twist].

Behind the Wheel

I for all intents and purposes am an absolute girly girl. My love of lace, ruffles, and glitter tends to lend itself to me having zero knowledge about cars. While I may not be able to tell you what type of engine a car has or for that matter how to even change a flat tire, I have a tremendous appreciation for the beauty of vintage cars. If I were a lucky owner of one of these cars I would view each time behind the wheel as an occasion to wear the most ladylike fashions or frilliest skirts I could find. I can also picture the trunk of my car often packed for a weekend roadtrip or a delicious picnic.
