nyc part 2

More from my NYC image diary.

through the lens

New York was a whirlwind of unfortunate events
sprinkled in with more than a few truly bright moments.
It was fashion shows, a photo shoot, meetings,
dinners, crashing hard drives, splitting pants and freak sicknesses.
But really, what's Fashion Week without a few disasters.
Makes the good moments all that much sweeter.

spotted

A few streetstyle shots I found from my first day at NYFW.
These happened to be taken by my favorite streetstyle photogs, Mr. Newton for Harper's Bazaar and Craig Arend for New York Magazine.
My NYC picture dairy will be up tomorrow, stay tuned for lots of familiar faces.

It's begun

(via the cut)
Only 2 days until I'm in NYC for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Still not packed just yet and fully resigned to the fact that my suitcase is to small.
Jumped the gun when I got rid of Big Red (my giant suitcase from last winter season).
Packing all of my favorite things like the vintage YSL skirt, my new Alexander Wang trousers, and my cashmere tights. If my suitcase gets lost I will cry crocodile tears of anguish.

It's coming...

I wrote a little article for Chictopia's Everybody Is Ugly blog.
Basically I came up with 15 essential items to pack for Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.
Some of these things I'm actually bringing, others I wish was.
You can read the complete article here.

*The List*

1. Gloves
Gloves are the number one thing most people forget when packing. Bring them, or risk icicle hands (seriously).
Asos leather gloves

2. Sunglasses
What can I say? Sun reflecting of snow is brighter than you think. Plus, it's totally not cool to be showing your eyeballs at MBFW.
Karen Walker Super Duper sunglasses

3. Chunky Scarf.
Bring the warmest scarf you can find. This might seem like common sense, but that doesn't mean I can't remind you.
Tips: The bigger, the better. You can use a large scarf as a pillow or a blanket on your flight.
Ruche tubular scarf

4.Tunic Dress.
At least one no fuss dress is a must for those last minute events and parties you'll be jetting off to.
Tip: Get a dress with breathing room, it's perfect when you're feeling rundown.

5.Tailored Trousers.
A pair of tailored trousers will be your best friend, I promise.
Tip: Dress them up with blouses for events, dress them down with cozy knits for meet ups and lunch dates.
Alexander Wang leather trimmed trouser

6. Long Coat.
Bring the longest and thickest coat possible.
Tip: Invest in a coat that is neural in color and simple in shape. That way you can be sure it will match with everything.
"Alexander Wang Nubby oversized coat

7. Killer Boots
Want to get photographed by a streetstyle photog? A pair of fierce pavement stomping boots is a must.
Tip: Bring a comfy pair to switch into.

8. Large Carry-on.
I've been traveling with this bag for the last 6 years, it's my most trusted companion. It's small enough to be a carry-on but big enough to fit my laptop, camera, and a jacket.
Tip: Pack a change of clothes in your carry-on. You never know if your bags will arrive at the same time you do.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Standard Supply Classic tote

9. Flat Boots.
Bring a comfy pair of flat boots for walking.
Tip: Bring them in your bag and change into them after the shows.
Need Supply Tundra Brown Shearling boots

10. Sweatshirt.
Pack a comfy sweatshirt, just in case.
Topshop sweater

11. Oversized Bag.
Pick a big bag that can fit your camera, a change of shoes and snacks.
Tip: A bag with a shoulder strap will save you unnecessary back pain.
Modcloth Weave it to me bag

12. Snacks.
Yes, you can buy snacks in New York. But you also might spend all your money on having too much fun. Bring some granola bars and popcorn. You won't regret it.
Kashi Go Lean bars

13. Portable Computer
Although an IPad is the ideal personal computer for blogging on the go, any laptop will do.
Tip: Post your show review as soon as you can. The fresher the content the more valuable it is to your readers.
"IPad"

14. DSLR.
What's the point of going to Fashion Week if you won't have any pictures to remember all the fabulousness? Buy, borrow or steal a DSLR to capture all the fun.
Tip: Take streetstyle photos of all the glamorous people to share with your readers.
Canon60D

15. Knit Turban.
This last one doesn't have to be a turban, anything that keeps your head warm will do.
Tip: Use head accessories to make a statement with your look.

sunday best

(dress-LF, socks-Asos, shoes- c/o Pierre Hardy for Gap, blue ring- c/o Fortune Favors the Brave, hat-American Apparel, sunglasses-YSL)
I got this charming little dress at the LF sale.
I like its mod shape and breezy fabric. I have a feeling it will have no problem making friends with all the other 60's inspired dresses hanging in my closet.
Ok. I'm super excited about one LF purchase in particular. Tights. The most amazing pair of fleece lined tights ever. I'm hoping they will be my golden ticket to staying coherently warm at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week next week. No matter how many times I go, I never feel fully prepared for the weather. Do you think I'll survive the cold this time?
Don't answer that.
Yesterday we ventured out to a sunny Mission district backyard for some Mexican food, mimosas, a jam session, and good friends.
The city has been kind and I'm not above exploiting all this good weather.

finally...

(via boymeetsgirl)
I finally got my hands on a few photos from the Boy Meets Girl fashion show I walked in.
It was an interesting experience. Stacy knows how to put on a great show. Although I had a lot of fun, I don't think I'll be doing anything like that again.
I ran into some funny little celebrities backstage, a lot of Housewives, Entourage and even Jersey Shore(?!) castmates.
I also ran into Danny and David Roberts. Danny had designed a couple of beautiful dresses for the other designer in the show.
Here's his sketch of one of the designs.

Update: Some of you have been asking why I wouldn't want to walk in a show again. It's just not for me, too many people and cameras. I like watching the runway shows.

chictopia.10

Pictures from Chictopia.10, the Juicy afterparty and the after-afterparty at a random rooftop party where a strange guy decided it was appropriate to corner me in an elevator and molest my face (eh). Let's play a game. How many familiar faces can you spot?
A big thank you to all of my readers who came up and said hello during Chictopia.10. I loved meeting all of you!

drained

(last image via the Cut)
(silk robe/dress-vintage c/o thrifted, skirt-Zara, shoes-Jeffrey Campbell, headpiece- vintage)

I'm so glad to be back to my sleepy little city! No matter how much I complain about the weather and the crack heads, my heart belongs to San Francisco.
NYC was a mix of work, play, new friends and strangeness.
Chictopia.10 was a really great event. It was really nice meeting everyone who came out. I still have hundreds of photos to go through.

One of the nicest evenings we had in NYC was spent at the Alice + Olivia presentation.
A few friends sharing some odd encounters.
