Beach Bum

Not much of an outfit per se, but I thought it would be fun to do a beach edition post. These photos were taken in South Padre Island which, in my opinion, has the best beach in Texas. The water is clear, and there isn't a whole bunch of dried up seaweed on the shores like other beaches. I wanted to take my cousins from England to the beach before they left (they leave tomorrow morning, so sad!!) so that they could see why we all love it here. I've been going to this same beach since I was little, but before I met Trae, I hadn't gone in almost 3 years. Trae and his whole family are total beach bums, so I've been going pretty often these days! I'm so grateful they let us use their condo! The drive is 4 1/2 hours, but it's totally worth it.

And those sunglasses I'm wearing (which I've been wearing for the past year & a half) have finally broke. I am a sad panda.

English Wonders

( F21 shorts, Kohls top, Target sandals and bracelet )

My cousins from England have been having a great time while visiting America, but it's weird for me to be a tourist in a city I spend almost every day. They've been taking pictures of things I see to be mundane, yet to them, they've never seen anything like it. For example, yesterday we went to Walmart to pick up a couple things, and they said, "Take a picture of us!" In my mind I think, why on Earth would you want a picture in front of a Walmart... granted they have great low prices, but really? ... Then I remembered they don't have Walmarts in England, but they know what they are due to news, television, and movies (I'm guessing). My cousin Matthew even wanted a picture with a box of Lucky Charms cereal. I told him to next time go for the box of Frosted Flakes... they're much more photogenic.

So far I've taken them downtown to see the Alamo, the Riverwalk, and up to the Tower of Amreicas. One thing they noticed is how many drive-through places we have, and that they're not all McDonald's (which is the only one they have in England) haha. I want to take them to my city's theme park and maybe even take them to Austin to show them where I go to college. We all went and saw the Green Lantern last night which was pretty cool. I told them about the certain theaters we have that serve food during the movie (other than popcorn, hotdogs, nachos, etc) to which Matthew responded, "why is this country always eating?" ...ummm..... because it's good!

These pictures were taken on Father's Day, so of course I had to sneak a picture of my dad in here! Don't we look alike? Some people say I look like my mother, but I think that's just because they can't look past my hair and skin color (which matches my mother's exactly). With no makeup on and my hair pulled back, I look just like my father. We even used to have the same teeth! But in high school I got braces, so I didn't have a huge gap anymore. Trae said it best when he told me I'm like "a female sketch of my dad, but with my mom's coloring" haha he is so right. My dad is an amazing person, and I'm so grateful to have him in my life. I am my dad's one and only child, so it's nice not having to share him :) Love you, Dad.

Biltmore Estate

If you follow us on twitter or noticed our sidebar this past weekend I had tweeted that I was going on a mini-vacation to Asheville, NC. I took full advantage of my three day weekend and decided to go on a little trip, because I am not sure if I will be able to get away this summer for a real vacation. I had previously decided to go to Asheville, NC for this mini-vacation because I have always wanted to go to the Biltmore Estate. The Biltmore Estate is the largest home in America. It is such a beautiful place. The house is amazing and the pieces inside have such history. One of my favorite things was a chess set that had previously been owned by Napoleon Bonaparte. It was so beautiful and intricately detailed. You couldn't take any pictures inside the house, but I wanted to share a few of my favorites that I took of the outside of the house, gardens, and other things in the little village.

On your way into the house you are greeted by two lions.

The Italian Garden with its different pools of water and statues was beautiful and serene.

The wishing fountain was so cute and since all of the coins are donated to the Humane Society of course we all had to toss in a handful of coins a piece.

Have you ever been to the Biltmore Estate? If not I highly recommend it. Plan to spend a day by the time you visit the house, the stables, gardens, winery, and the little village.

Surfs Up

Beach season has arrived, so if you are in need of a new swimsuit it is definitely time to start looking. While two piece suits can be very cute and fun they generally lack the ability to offer the glamorous look a one-piece can provide.

Anthropologie is currently offering one of my favorite swimsuit and coverup collections. Below is my favorite three swimsuits from the collection.

I spent some time this weekend creating a few polyvores for look inspiration. I love a gold and white color combination because it is so clean and chic. This look provides a little of a Sun Goddess vibe.

The Big Apple

During one of my vacations in New York we were told by the tour guide that only tourist call New York the Big Apple. I assume that is likely very true. Anyway, I've always preferred the nickname "The City That Never Sleeps." It makes New York seem like it must be filled with so much excitement, fun, and life.

Me and my sister have started thinking about possible vacations for this summer. And New York is definitely on our list. It is one of our favorite places. You may think that it is too early to start planning a summer vacation since we are in the middle of winter but if we don't start planning now believe me nothing will get decided and we will be stuck spending our vacation at home. I feel like when we go to New York we are stuck doing the same touristy things as everyone else visiting the City. In the past we've seen the Empire State Building, the Statute of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, and ate at way over priced places located in Time Square. I would love to get a better feel of the New York that is known to the people who live there. I want to see unique interesting places visited by locals. I want to eat yummy food instead of at the sub par restaurants we've been to.

Broadway is one of my favorite things about New York so if we vacation there this summer you can be sure it will be on the list but otherwise I'm totally open to suggestions. So if you live in New York, have visited, or just dream of someday going there please share your thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance. ☺

Surfs Up

I don't get a vacation this year but that hasn't stopped me from daydreaming daily about fantastic getaways. I would love to be soaking up the sun and splashing in the water on a beautiful beach. And wouldn't watching the sunset over the ocean be wonderful? I would definitely stay in a lovely beach house right on the beach so I could walk down my steps and be in the sand. Countless hours would be spent on the boardwalk where I could play games, enjoy the lights, and people watch. Nothing would be better at night than gathering a group around a bonfire. Hanging out, toasting marshmellows and listening to music. I would make sure to eat my share of boardwalk food. Tons of ice cream, boardwalk fries. And especially funnel cake. Yummy! I hope I could work up the courage to take a surfing lesson. I've always thought it looks like so much fun but it still intimidates me. I would take some time to build amazing sandcastles. The way this one is lit up is extremely impressive. But most of all I would make sure I had plenty of time to just relax and enjoy being stress free.
